Colossal Cave Adventure

The interactive story Colossal Cave Adventure wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to jump into and be apart of the story. Colossal Cave Adventure is a text based interactive game that allows you to input commands such as "north," "down," "carry," etc. to progress in the story and earn points in your score. I think if I was playing this during its original release time then it would definitely have been easy for me to understand what words to impute to get my desired outcome.

Instead I started the game with high enthusiasm; read over the directions; the extra directions that were offered and after entering the first building got stuck. Imputing command after command and hoped that I was using the right command after which I found I had lost my place in my surroundings with no way to scroll up. I restarted the game twice before admitting defeat and playing along with the video provided on Brian Hudson's website.

After playing along to Brian's video I definitely want to try again on my own to see how far I get but also can see how my own understand of what a game is could have hindered my efforts to understand Colossal Cave Adventure. Being from a time when games are easily interactive with a click here or click there and a visual to what is happening gives a disadvantage to learning what games used to be. I think after getting a hang of the process it would be more fun, giving me vibes of Dungeons and Dragon adventures in the storytelling genre of this game.
